If being a business major has taught me one thing in college it’s that renting never pays, owing never pays but owning pays major dividends. With that said, when I decided to move off campus, I wasn’t looking for the cheapest apartment I could find like most of my buddies were doing. Nope, I was looking for a cheap foreclosed house near campus. Lucky for me, there was a perfect 3 bedroom house 2 blocks from campus that had just come on the market in my price range. Even better for me, when my grandfather passed away 3 years ago, he left each of his grandkids a nice little chunk of change. When he passed, I really didn’t need anything, so I put it into the bank. Now I’m glad I did because I’m now the only 20 year old homeowner I know. That’s right, I paid cash for the house. What’s even better is that the house really didn’t need too much work before I could rent the other rooms to friends. Since I was able to find Wildblue Internet Service online, I’m even able to include cable, internet and a landline into the rent price. Now, I get to live off campus and even get paid for it at the same time. Life is good!
